Happy New Year, readers. Thanks to so many of our loyal customers and a slew of new ones, our holiday season was good. We are excited to offer such fabulous creations and are equally as excited to bring new pieces and new artists into the gallery in 2010. Gallery Night and Day are Friday, January 15th, from 5pm-9pm, and Saturday, January 16th, 10-6, our regular Saturday hours. Stop in for some hot apple cider.

I feel a bit like Julie in the film Julia and Julie, when she asks the rhetorical question, ” Who reads my blog anyway?”, so, to you readers I am offering a secret sale. Fall Gallery Night, October 16,2009

Maybe a harvest moon? That would be a perfect addition to the three artists we are featuring for Gallery Weekend. Michele Friedman from Chicago sent a lovely display of her felt and sterling pieces. The colors fit well with the falling leaves. Mary Jaeger, a fiber artist from NYC, sent a range of beautiful wraps and scarves. Leave your coat at home and wrap yourself in one of the wool/silk wraps. And, finally, introducing Stacey Webber and her money jewelry. I have to admit that the sound of it was not that exciting to me, BUT wait until you see it. She is bringing necklaces, earrings, bracelets and cufflinks. Let’s give a warm welcome to Stacey, who just joined the UW-Milwaukee faculty in Fine Arts. Warm apple cider and Halloween treats will be served.

Sydney Lynch is coming!

She is sending a trunk show worth of her beautiful earrings, necklaces, brooches and bracelets. Stop in and meet her. I often read the blogs of my artists as a way to learn about their motivations, frustrations, creative jolts, etc…and I came across an excellent article in which the artist speaks of what it is really like to create handcrafted jewelry. My favorite new artist from the Baltimore American Craft Council Show is Liaung-Chung Yen. Originally from Taiwan, he attended the Savannah Institute of Art and Design. He works in both pure silver and 18 & 22K gold. His work is intricate, beautiful and highly original. This is definitely collectible jewelry. Stop in and see for yourself.

Hello readers (and hopefully customers) of 3rd Ward Jewelry,

Each day I ask myself how I can make my business better - today’s answer is that I would like to communicate with you, my customers, in a more eco-friendly manner. So, I am asking that you send your email addresses to me at 3rdwardjewelry@tds.net and I will reward you with 10% off your next purchase at the gallery. I PROMISE never to send junk; I PROMISE not to send emails unless the information is very useful; and I PROMISE to send emails at most 5 times per year. I usually delete emails from stores - BUT, my two favorite knitting stores send such interesting emails, that I always open them. Three great Chicago artists

Since so many of you come from Chicago to see our gallery, I decided to bring Chicago to our gallery. Starting on Gallery Night, October 17th and running until the end of October, we are featuring three Chicago artists: Linda Bernasconi, who specializes in woven sterling silver and gold, Michele Friedman, who has two great lines - sterling and gold light jewelry and sterling and felt (great fun and gorgeous), and Kathy Frey, whose work as evolved so beautifully has sent some great wire flower pins, neckpieces and earrings. This grouping is worth seeing and trying on. We are open from10-9pm on Gallery Night. Do stop in for a glass of wine and good hospitality.

Sydney Lynch work has arrived!

It is now the first week of September and we have been busy with jewelry buyers; maybe the cooler weather is bringing about the need for adornments to keep us warmer. We are so pleased that the work from Sydney Lynch of Lincoln, Nebraska has arrived. We have carried a limited amount of her work in the past, but now we have several lovely necklaces, bracelets, brooches and earrings. She combines sterling silver, oxidized sterling silver, 18k gold, pearls and gems to create beautiful and classic pieces. Also on the horizon is April Higashi from Berkeley, California whose enamel work should be in the gallery by Wednesday of this week. Again, our hours are Monday through Saturday, 10-6 and Sunday, 12-4. Hope to see you soon!
